Before production of the Chiron Pur Sport
commences at Buggati’s Molsheim facility this fall, with the first units to be
delivered prior to the end of the year, the automaker took to the Nardo
racetrack for some fine-tuning.
The company’s test driver and pro-racing
pilot Andy Wallace grabbed the wheel of a pre-production prototype and put it
through its paces, with a few power slides and even a short jump, giving his
feedback on how the engine control system, gearbox, running gear and brakes
should be tweaked.
Priced at € 3 million (US$ 3.5+ million)
excluding tax, the Pur Sport is a lighter and more refined version of the
Chiron, with improved aerodynamics, stiffer chassis and special 20-inch front
and 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in 285/30 and 355/25 Bugatti Sport Cup 2 R
tires.
Limited to 60 units, it is powered by
Bugatti’s signature quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine that produces 1,479
HP. The unit has been optimized and can rev 200 rpm
higher, to 6,900 rpm.
