The new C8 Corvette Z06 is shaping up to be a pretty amazing car and a fortunate Facebook user recently stumbled across a heavily-camouflaged prototype during testing. This Corvette Z06 was filmed up close by Dylon DeBaca and shared on the C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends) page on Facebook. It gives us an up-close look at the car and also provides us the opportunity to hear the V8 engine at idle.

Distinguishing this prototype from Corvette Stingray models currently on sale is that instead of having a traditional quad tailpipe layout with dual tips at either corner of the rear bumper, it instead has four centrally mounted tailpipes. Of these, the two center exhausts are larger while the two outer exhausts are thinner. It’s hard to say if this is what the finished exhaust system of the new Z06 will look like, but it no doubt adds to the beautiful engine note.

Roughly four weeks ago, a different C8 Corvette Z06 prototype was spied testing and, in that case, it was filmed accelerating up a hill near GM’s Milford Proving Ground. Not only did it sound significantly different than any other road-going Corvette before it, but actually sounded like a supercar you’d expect out of Italy.

Powering the new Z06 will be a 5.5-liter, naturally aspirated V8 closely related to the one used by the C8.R race car. This engine features a flat-plane crank and will rev to 9,000 rpm. It could deliver as much as 625 hp and 647 Nm of torque, not that much less than the supercharged C7 Z06 with its 650 hp and 881 Nm.
