The bizarre Hispano Suiza Carmen was showcased at the Circuit de la Sarthe just prior to the running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the weekend. First presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2019, the Carmen is a supercar unlike any other and was accompanied on track by a series of impressive hypercars and supercars owned by members of the Supercar Owners Circle that organized the event. Among the other cars in attendance were a McLaren Senna GTR LM, Pagani Zonda LM, Pagani Huayra BC, Koenigsegg One:1, Ferrari Enzo, and a Lexus LFA.

When compared to the other vehicles showcased at the famed French circuit, the Carmen looks like something from another planet. Among the most intriguing design details are the aerodynamic covers over the rear wheels, and the low-slung rear fascia and decklid.

It’s not just the exterior that is intriguing. Found beneath the bodywork are a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 1,005 hp, all of which is sent to the rear wheels. Providing these motors with their juice is an 80 kWh battery pack and Hispano Suiza says the car can hit 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Inside, the Carmen features a digital gauge cluster, a digital rearview mirror, and a large central touchscreen at the top of the transmission tunnel. Then there’s the price. With a planned production run of just 19 units, Hispano Suiza is asking for € 1.5 million (US$ 1.76 million) for each. We have a sneaking suspicion selling them at that price could prove a challenge
