Five special McLaren Senna GTR LM models
have just been unveiled by the British car manufacturer. The five special Senna
GTR LMs have been created to celebrate the five McLaren F1 GTRs that dominated
the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. All examples have been built by McLaren Special
Operations and each comes with their own unique paint scheme.
Each of the cars has been designed to
mimic the look of the F1 GTRs that finished in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th
during the Le Mans 24 Hours. It took MSO at least 800 hours to paint each of
the five Senna GTR LMs. McLaren also had to ask for special permission from
companies such as Gulf and Harrods, as well as Le Mans organizer the Automobile
Club de l’Ouest (ACO) to create various logos and trademarks. The only piece of
vinyl on the exterior is a recreated scrutineering sticker on the roof of each
car.
The first is the McLaren Senna GTR LM
825/1, created as a homage to McLaren F1/01R often known as ‘The Ueno Clinic
car’ that won Le Mans in 1995. MSO has been able to perfectly replicate the
iconic charcoal grey paint of the race car and has even been able to replicate
the car’s various driving lamps.
Second is the Senna GTR LM 825/6 known as
‘The Harrods car.’ The F1 it pays homage to was driven by Andy Wallace, Derek
Bell and Justin Bell and could have won the race but experienced a transmission
issue and had to limp home in 3rd. It had a bright yellow livery with a bold
green stripe. The MSO team has painted the Senna in Solar Yellow while the stripe
is finished in Heritage Green.
Third is McLaren Senna GTR LM 825/2,
created as a homage to McLaren F1/02R also known as ‘The Gulf car.’ This F1
finished in fourth at the iconic endurance race and the memorable Gulf Racing
blue has been replicated. It also features OZ Racing wheels and Ayrton Senna’s
signature has been recreated on the rear quarter of the bodywork.
Paying homage to McLaren F1/07R, better
known as ‘The Jacardi car,’ is Senna GTR LM 825/7. It has a royal blue livery
and also includes logos from Elf, the French oil company that sponsored the
1995 Le Mans 24 Hours. Last but not least is Senna GTR LM 825/5, a homage to
F1/05R that finished 13th in the race. This car took the longest to paint as it
uses extensive airbrushing to include pole position lap times and various Le
Mans branding cues. The five special cars are being delivered to customers in
the United States, Europe, and the UK.
