Honda has announced a number of updates for the 2021 Accord in the United States, including upgraded styling, tech, drivability and safety features. Going on sale at Honda dealerships beginning October 13, the midsize sedan brings a refreshed exterior design. The main modifications are the wider grille with improved integration of the Honda Sensing’s radar unit, new LED headlights (EX and above trims on Accord Hybrid) with longer and wider down-the-road illumination, and smaller openings for the fog lights. LX, EX-L and Touring trims also gain new alloy wheel designs, while Sport, Sport Special Edition (SE) and Touring trims can be had in the new Sonic Gray Pearl exterior color.
Inside, Honda has made the 8-inch Display
Audio touchscreen entertainment system standard across the range, which means
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are also standard now. Furthermore,
EX-L and Touring trims get new wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
connectivity. All Accords also receive a new Rear Seat Reminder and rear
seatbelt reminder, while upper grades gain a new Low Speed Braking Control
system. More minor interior changes include a new position for the front USB
ports for easier access, while Sport and higher trims (EX and higher trims for
Accord Hybrid) now feature dual 2.5-volt USB ports for rear seat passengers.
Under the skin, the 2021 Accord Hybrid is
said to offer more direct and immediate throttle response with a more natural
acceleration feeling thanks to updates to the two-motor hybrid system. As for
the 192 HP 1.5-liter and 252 HP 2.0-liter turbo engines, they get updated engine
management software for more linear and responsive throttle control.
In addition, the 1.5-liter turbo brings
improved Idle Stop performance, with quicker engine start-up when the driver
releases the brake. The manual transmission is no longer available, though; the
1.5-liter unit can only be had with a CVT while the 2.0-liter engine now comes
exclusively with the 10-speed auto. The braking system has also been updated
for smoother engagement, especially at low speeds.
For 2021, the Honda Accord also gains a
new Sport Special Edition. Replacing the Accord EX 1.5T, the Accord Sport SE
expands on the popular Sport trim with new features. Those include leather
seats, heated front seats, 12-way power driver’s seat, four-way power passenger
seat, heated mirrors, Smart Entry, and remote engine start. Visually, the
Accord Sport and Accord Sport SE differ from other trims thanks to the rear
trunk lid spoiler, unique 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, dark-chrome grille,
and chrome exhaust finishers.
When it comes to safety, Accord Touring and Accord Hybrid Touring trims now feature a new front and rear braking system called Low Speed Braking Control. Additionally, the Honda Sensing suite receives updates to Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist system (LKAS).
Prices for the 2021 Honda Accord start at US$ 24,770, while the 2021 Accord Hybrid has a starting MSRP of US$ 26,370. The prices exclude a US$ 955 destination charge.
