Infiniti’s entry-level crossover is getting better with age as the company has announced a handful of updates for the 2021 QX50. All models feature a handful of newly standard safety features including rear side-impact airbags and an automatic collision notification system. In the event of a crash, the QX50 will automatically connect you to an operator who can contact emergency services on your behalf and also notify pre-registered emergency contacts.
Besides the safety features, the 2021 QX50
receives a newly standard WiFi hotspot and acoustic laminated front side glass
which should help to make the cabin a little quieter. Last but not least, the
color palette has been expanded to include a new Mineral Black option.
Pricing for the entry-level QX50 Pure
starts at US$ 37,950 and that’s a US$ 700 increase from last year’s model. It, like
all QX50s, is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces
268 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is paired
to a continuously variable transmission which can be backed up by an optional
all-wheel drive system.
Customers can also upgrade to the QX50
Luxe which begins at US$ 41,500. That’s a US$ 1,250 jump from last year, but the
model now comes standard with heated front seats and an assortment of driver
assistance systems including Blind Spot Intervention, Distance Control Assist,
Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Prevention and ProPILOT Assist.
The crossover can also be equipped with a
new appearance package that features a number of components sourced from last
year’s QX50 Edition 30. The package includes a black mesh grille, black mirror
caps, dark chrome accents and 20-inch wheels with a black painted finish.
Additional changes are limited, but the
QX50 Essential gains traffic sign recognition technology while the QX50 Sensory
now boasts a standard head-up display and a complimentary climate package.
Direct adaptive steering is now standard on QX50 Autograph, while the all-wheel
drive variant comes equipped with a tow package.
