Tesla has officially taken the virtual wraps off the updated Model 3. Since the car is instantly recognizable, the changes are easy to miss unless you’re a diehard Tesla fan. That problem is amplified by Tesla’s lack of a press department which would be useful in detailing the updates and providing high-quality pictures.

Putting that aside, Electrek and Teslarati are reporting the model receives a power trunk and updated wheels ranging in sizes from 18- to 20-inches. The car has also been ‘dechromed’ as dark accents replace chrome trim on the door handles and window surrounds.

Inside, there’s an all-new center console which trades a gloss black trim for a duller finish. The console also sports a new lid and a revised wireless charging area. The latter features two smartphone trays that appear to be upholstered. More meaningful changes occur underneath the skin as the Standard Range Plus variant now has an estimated range of 423 km – an increase of 21 miles. However, the 0-96 km/h time of 5.3 seconds and top speed of 225 km/h remain unchanged.

The Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor AWD sees more significant improvements as it now has an estimated range of 568 km. That’s 50 km more than its predecessor. Furthermore, the 0-96 km/h time falls to 4.2 seconds. That means the model is 0.2 seconds faster, even though the top speed is still 233 km/h.

Lastly, the Model 3 Performance Dual Motor AWD has an extra 26 km of range. It can now travel an estimated 507 km on a single charge and run from 0-96 km/h a tenth of a second faster at 3.1 seconds.

The 2021 Tesla Model 3 is currently available to order and pricing starts at US$ 37,990 before incentives.
