The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been caught lapping the Nurburgring. Not only does it look the part but it also sounds the part and will no doubt prove to be even faster than the 991.2-generation model. Our eagle-eyed spy photographers first snapped the new GT3 RS undergoing tests back in August and this prototype looks just as insane. It’s abundantly clear that Porsche will make the GT3 RS even more hardcore and track-focused than all of its predecessors.
The front of the prototype includes a
unique grille while a bespoke hood with massive air vents has also been
installed. Additionally, this prototype features aerodynamic louvers in the
front wheel arches and looks to be sitting on a set of gargantuan black wheels
and tires that will help stick it to the pavement.
As aggressive and aero-focused as the
front end is, it is the rear where most of the action is happening with a
towering wing jutting out of the decklid and complete with swan-neck style
uprights. There is also a small ducktail lip spoiler and a close look at the
endplates of the rear wing suggests it will be adjustable. The car lacks the
side air intakes of the previous-gen model.
Powering the car will be a high-revving,
naturally-aspirated flat-six engine but the displacement of this engine remains
unclear. In the ‘regular’ 992 GT3 RS, it will likely be capped at 4.0-liters
but there’s a chance it could grow to 4.2-liters for the GT3 RS. The 911 RSR
GTE race car unveiled by Porsche in mid-2019 had a 4.2-liter flat-six so it’s
possible a version of this engine could come to the road with up to 580 HP.
We expect to see the new GT3 RS unveiled
after the 992 GT3 and GT3 Touring models that should land in the first half of
2021. This means the GT3 RS will most likely launch for the 2022 model year in
North America.
