The teaser campaign for the Acura MDX Prototype continues as the company has provided the first glimpse of the interior. Acura was coy on specifics, but the model follows in the footsteps of the redesigned TLX. In particular, the steering wheel carries over from the sedan while the center console is almost identical apart from a new storage slot on the right of the volume control knob.
The center stack also mirrors the one in
the TLX as there’s a large infotainment system which resides above slender air
vents. However, the MDX Prototype has fancier climate controls and revised
switchgear. Elsewhere, drivers will find a digital instrument cluster,
open-pore wood trim and LED ambient lighting. The concept also has a 25-speaker
ELS Studio 3D audio system with bright speaker grilles.
Other highlights include a leather-wrapped
dashboard and stylish seats with curvilinear quilting, gradient perforation as
well as “high-contrast stitching and piping.” The seats also promise to be
comfortable as Acura noted the front-row has a multi-mode massage function. The
MDX Prototype will be unveiled on October 14th and is a thinly veiled preview
of the production model. The crossover’s exterior was previewed last week, but
it isn’t much of a surprise as it’s been revealed in everything from patent
photos to files found in an infotainment system.
Acura has been tight-lipped performance
specs, but the MDX is expected to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
engine that produces 272 hp and 379 Nm of torque.
It should be connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission which can be
paired to an optional super handling all-wheel drive system.
Since Acura is planning to launch a Type S
variant of all future models, there should also be a hotter crossover with a
turbocharged 3.0-liter engine pumping out approximately 355 hp and 480 Nm of torque.
