Back in 2017, Ferrari replaced the F12berlinetta with the 812 Superfast, a more modern and technically advanced GT, which was joined by the 812 GTS open-top version last year. Fast-forward to the present day, and the Prancing Horse is working on the third member of the family, which could be named the 812 GTO, like the 599 GTO that preceded the F12tdf, or the VS – ‘versioni speciali’, which is Italian for ‘special version’.
Whichever name they decide to go for, it
will feature more advanced aerodynamics and most likely a refined chassis with
new suspension components and uprated brakes. It should also lose a few
kilograms from the 1,525 kg dry weight of the regular 812 Superfast
and might pack a more potent V12 under that long hood.
The naturally aspirated 6.5-liter engine
currently makes 789 HP at 8,500 rpm and 718 Nm of
torque at 7,000 rpm. This rockets the Italian exotic from zero to 100
km/h in just 2.9 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 7.9 seconds, with a 340 km/h top speed. Thus, expect even more impressive performance numbers
from the hardcore variant.
In all likelihood, production will be
limited to only a few hundred cars, each one starting north of the US$ 400,000
mark in the U.S., considering that the 812 Superfast can be had from almost US$ 340,000. The official unveiling date of the 812 GTO / 812 VS is unknown, but
we could see it by early next year.
