Winter is still months away in the Northern Hemisphere, but that hasn’t stopped Genesis from doing some cold weather testing in the snow-covered Alps. Their test subject this time is the G70 Shooting Brake, which is expected to play an important role in the brand’s European launch. Caught alongside the facelifted sedan, the Shooting Brake has a sporty front fascia with a prominent crest grille and sizeable air intakes. The company’s quad lighting units are also part of the package and they’ve become a trademark of new Genesis models.
While the front end carries over from the
sedan, the Shooting Brake is distinguished by a long sloping roof and an angled
liftgate that is heavily disguised. The model could also adopt third quarter
windows to improve visibility, but it’s hard to be certain at this point.
Regardless, there are quad taillights and
a rear spoiler with an integrated third brake light. We can also see a dual
exhaust system with both tips located on the passenger side. Why spy
photographers didn’t get a look inside, the cabin should echo the sedan. As a
result, we can expect a freestanding 10.25-inch infotainment system with
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Drivers should also find premium
leather upholstery, metallic trim and a wireless smartphone charger.
Engine options will presumably carryover
from the sedan and include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a twin-turbo
3.3-liter V6 and a 2.2-liter diesel. While there was speculation about a turbocharged
2.5-liter four-cylinder replacing the 2.0-liter unit, the Korean-spec model
retains the current engine. Of course, Genesis has promised to release more
details about the facelifted G70 shortly so we can to learn more later this
month.
