Audi has updated the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback lineup once more, with the electric SUVs getting new features. One of the novelties is the introduction of a second on-board charger, which doubles the power from 11 to 22 kW. It’s already available as an option for the ‘55’ models and will launch in mid-2021 for the ‘50’ and ‘S’ specs too.

Offered by Audi for home garages, the new charging connect system can charge the vehicle at up to 22 kW. It uses a suitable domestic installation, features a 5-inch touchscreen display and a wall mount, and can be used remotely with the myAudi app. According to the automaker, it can charge the E-Tron 55 and E-Tron 55 Sportback in under 5 hours.

Moreover, the charging system offers additional functions. For instance, the EV can take account of the household’s needs, charging it with the remaining power to avoid overloading the system. It can also be set up to charge when the electricity is less expensive, or if the home is equipped with a solar panel system it can be charged using the electricity generated by it taking into account the weather forecasts too. A PIN protection against unauthorized use is also included.

Another novelty is the updated steering wheel, with a focus on the touch-sensitive rim for the adaptive cruise assist. Drivers will only need to touch it once a minute to ensure that the system remains active, although they will still be fully responsible for steering the E-Tron, according to Audi. The system uses data collected in real time to keep the car centered in its lane and assists the driver with accelerating, braking, maintaining speed and keeping the distance to the vehicle in front.

The wheel range has been updated as well, as besides the standard 20-inch and optional 21-inch sets, the company has launched new five-spoke 9.5×22-inch rims shod in 265/40 tires. The 2021 E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback are already available to order, with customer deliveries set to begin towards the end of the year.
