The Nautilus is one of Lincoln’s best-selling vehicles, but its interior has always left something to be desired. The company is now addressing that issue with a comprehensive update that brings the crossover into the 21st century. The changes are immediately apparent the 2021 Nautilus adopts a significantly improved interior that follows in the footsteps of the Aviator. Inside, there’s an all-new dashboard with a wide swath of wood trim. The crossover also features a horizontal element which houses new air vents and glossy trim.

Elsewhere, there’s higher quality switchgear and a new “piano key” shifter. Drivers will also find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch display. The infotainment system is one of the largest in the segment and it features a Lincoln-exclusive Constellation theme which draws inspiration from the night sky. The system also has voice recognition technology, over-the-air updates and a digital owner’s manual.

Sticking with the interior, there’s a revised color palette that includes Sandstone with “color contrasts varying from light to dark.” Black Ebony returns, but it’s now paired with new Roast accents. Buyers looking for something more exclusive can opt for one of two Black Label trims. The Chalet theme “evokes contrasting pleasures of mountain slopes and the warm comfort of an après-ski lodge, with Espresso and Alpine Venetian leathers and deep Silverwood appliqués, while Flight harmoniously combines rich leathers and other materials to give the sensation of taking to the skies.”

Exterior changes are minor in comparison as the 2021 Nautilus adopts a “more polished” front end. The updates are easy to overlook, but include a lightly modified bumper and revised trim. There are also three new exterior colors called Asher Gray, Green Gem and Flight Blue. Another notable update is the addition of “Phone As A Key” technology. It enables owners to use the Lincoln Way app to unlock and start their vehicle, without a physical key.

Engine options carryover and include an entry-level turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 250 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Customers can also opt for a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 which develops 335 hp and 515 Nm of torque.

In terms of safety, the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance systems is standard and includes auto high-beam headlights, blind spot detection with cross-traffic alert, and pre-colllision assist with automatic emergency braking. Customers can also order the Co-Pilot360 Plus package which adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, enhanced active park assist, evasive steering assist and a 360 degree camera system. The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus will arrive at U.S. dealerships early next year and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
