The 2021 Nissan Navara has just been unveiled after a brief teaser campaign. It brings with it a host of important upgrades over the outgoing model and brings with it a new flagship variant that will be sold in markets around the world. The new Navara, also badged as the Frontier in Mexico and South America (unrelated to the U.S. Frontier), is immediately distinguishable from the outgoing model thanks to the revised front and rear fascias.
At the front, for example, the updated Navara
received a revised grille and a pair of new bi-LED headlights that add to its
menacing stance on the road. All of the parts ahead of the windshield are new.
There are also new taillights and parts including the tailgate and wheel arch
flares have also been updated.
Beyond its new looks, the 2021 Navara
includes a host of standard Nissan Intelligent Mobility features including
Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, and
Intelligent Around View Monitor that uses four cameras to make positioning the
pickup easier, particularly when parking or towing. This system also includes
an off-road monitor that checks for nearby obstacles at low speeds when in
four-wheel drive mode.
Nissan has also strengthened the Navara’s
rear axle, increased the payload capacity, added volume to the bed, and fitted
an integrated step in the rear bumper. The Japanese automaker has also fitted a
new steering rack to improve maneuverability at low speeds and steering
response. This new steering rack is also said to reduce vibration and improve
noise isolation. Sitting at the top of the new Navara range is the PRO-4X
model. It incorporates a style package aimed at “adventure lovers and travelers
craving an escape from their daily routine” and includes a sports bar.
Various interior updates have been made,
including the fitment of a new steering wheel and an updated infotainment
system display. No powertrain upgrades have been made. As such, the 2021 Navara
comes standard with a twin-turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder diesel expected
to produce the same 188 hp and 450 Nm as the outgoing model. This
engine can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed auto.
Pricing details haven’t been announced.
