Infiniti was slated to unveil the 2022 QX55 on November 11th, but its unveiling has been pushed back to the 17th at 5:55 PM PST (8:55 PM EST). While the delay is unfortunate, the company has released a new teaser image which reveals the shape of the upcoming crossover coupe.
Billed as the successor to the iconic FX,
which helped to spawn the crossover coupe craze, the QX55 will “fuse the stance
and versatility of a premium mid-size crossover with the sleek profile of a
sports coupe.” That’s clearly visible in the new teaser image as you can see
the crossover will have a steeply sloping roofline and what appears to be a
compact greenhouse. While there isn’t much to see, Infiniti has previously
teased the QX55’s rear end which features slender taillights, a double bubble
rear spoiler and an angular rear window.
Infiniti is staying tight-lipped about the
model, but it will be launched in the spring of 2021. The crossover is expected
to be based on the QX50 which has a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine
that develops 268 hp and 379 Nm of torque. The
engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission which can be paired
to an optional all-wheel drive system.
Besides teasing the QX55, Infiniti said
the crossover will be introduced as part of a “one-of-a-kind streaming concert”
being performed by Aloe Blacc. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, he’s sung hits
such as “Wake Me Up,” “The Man,” and “I Need a Dollar.”
