For decades, the public has been fascinated by the notion of flying cars and, while there are some compelling vehicles on the horizon, they haven’t really materialized in the way many expected. Enter Slovakia’s Klein Vision and its AirCar.
The AirCar has been designed by Stefan
Klein, the man behind the Aeromobil flying car that was unveiled a few years
ago. The AirCar has a similar design but comes from the designer’s own company.
While it has yet to become commercially available, a prototype has taken to the
skies during test flights and seems to work quite well.
As noted by New Atlas, the rear section of
the AirCar extends in flight mode. In addition, the wings fold up and outwards
when it’s time to fly. It’s a very intriguing piece of design and seems to
function quite well both as a car and as a plane.
It remains unclear what kind of powertrain the AirCar has or what kinds of speeds and range it can achieve both on the road and when in flight. It is reported that three- and four-seat versions could be produced, as well as a potential twin-prop model. Heck, Klein Vision is said to be working on a variant that can also act as an amphibious vehicle. It remains unclear if and when the AirCar will hit the market, but we’ve got little doubt Stefan Klein has plans to produce it. Will people actually buy it? That remains to be seen.
