Skoda has introduced a value-packed SE Technology variant to its Scala range for the UK, featuring a high equipment level that includes the Amundsen sat-nav system, a 9.2-inch touchscreen display, 16-inch alloy wheels and more. The starting price for a P11D SE Technology model is £ 18,625 (US$ 24,874), with buyers able to opt for one of five different gasoline engine and gearbox combinations.
Its 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder unit is
available with outputs of 95 PS and 110 PS, with an optional
seven-speed DSG gearbox also part of the package. Those who require more power
can also opt for a 1.5 TSI unit with 150 PS. Building on the SE spec,
SE Technology models gain 16-inch Alaris alloys, chrome window surrounds and
rear LED lights with dynamic indicators. Inside, there are silver haptic
decorative inserts, plus the previously-mentioned 9.2-inch infotainment system,
featuring web radio and traffic sign recognition.
According to Skoda, this spec commands a
£400 premium over the standard SE, making it “remarkable value for company and
fleet buyers.” The Czech carmaker already has an extensive offering for SE
Technology specs, as far as its models are concerned – Karoq, Octavia and
Superb, with the Scala being the newest addition.
Based on recent reviews, the Skoda Scala
is easily one of Europe’s most practical hatchbacks, offering room for five and
a shockingly voluminous trunk with a capacity of 467 liters.
That’s more than the VW Golf’s 380 liters. However, opting for the
entry-level 1.0-liter TSI unit means dropping all expectations with regards to
acceleration prowess (0-60 mph in 10 seconds).
