Joining an increasing array of Cobra replica builders announcing electric versions of the famed roadster, Superformance has teased its own all-electric Cobra clone that is currently under development. The company has been building Shelby Cobra replicas for more than two decades and in a teaser video, has previewed the electric variant that it is working on. While the teaser is absent of any technical specifications, we’ve little doubt that the car will be quick.
The Cobra featured in this teaser is
painted black and from the outside, looks no different than the many internal
combustion engine’d replicas there are throughout the United States. While most
performance-focused electric vehicles currently on the market are all-wheel
drive, we’re willing to bet that Superformance’s electric Cobra will send its
power exclusively through the rear wheels.
Additionally, when you look at the sheer
width of the rear tires, it’s pretty obvious it will not be short on power.
Another interesting thing we’ve noticed about Superformance’s car is that the
charging port is in the same position on the passenger side rear fender as the
fuel cap for ICE-powered Cobra replicas from the company.
This will not be the first and only
electric Cobra available. Back in July, AC Cars itself announced the Series 1
Electric, an EV variant of the Cobra that features a 54 kWh battery pack and an
electric motor with 308 hp and 250 Nm of torque. AC Cars is also
launching a 617 hp electric version of the 1960s Cobra Le Mans racer.
