Wey, a premium automotive brand controlled by Great Wall, did not reveal a single new car at the Auto Guangzhou expo this year, but promised three utility vehicles coming up in 2021. The new SUVs and crossovers will inherit the chassis and tech from the Wey Tank 300. The model itself uses an updated version of the Haval H9 architecture.
The trio will target different market
segments, specifically compacts, mid-sized CUVs, and full-sized SUVs. The
compact model will likely succeed the Wey VV7 and be technically similar to the
Haval H6 and Dagou. The first-gen VV7 emerged three years ago.
The other two remain a mystery. Chinese
media point out that Wey had greater plans for the Tank 300 platform back at
the Chengdu show in July, promising to launch a couple of MPVs and three pickup
trucks based on it.
As for the Tank 300, show attendees can
pre-order the car for 175,800 – 213,800 Yuan. All trims make use of the same
2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine burning gasoline for 227 PS. A ZF eight-speed auto transmission drives all four wheels. Aside
from the Tank, Wey has three crossover SUVs on its current lineup, including
the compact-sized VV5 and VV6 and the mid-sized VV7.
