Presented at the beginning of the year, the 2021 Toyota Supra has now made its way to Australia with a boost in power and better performance. The turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six now delivers an extra 48 PS over the previous variant, lifting output to 387 PS at 5,800-6,500 rpm.
As a result, the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time has dropped by two tenths of a second, to 4.1 seconds. Peak
torque remains the same, at 500 Nm, but it is now available from
1,800 to 5,000 rpm. Despite being more powerful, the 2021 Supra’s fuel economy
is still rated at 7.7 l/100 km (30.55 mpg US), according to Toyota, and CO2
emissions stand at 177 g/km.
To better cope with the extra oomph, the
Japanese sports car has been fitted with a pair of strut braces under the hood,
which prevent the chassis from flexing during cornering, thus making the
structure more rigid in order to enhance handling. Visually nothing has
changed, save for the added Supra logos to the front brake calipers on the GTS
model.
The 2021 Supra is available in two trim
levels. The GR Supra GT, which comes with power-adjustable sports seats,
leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, 10-speaker audio and smart entry
and start, and the GR Supra GTS, which adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL sound system,
head-up display and sports pedals. The Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver
assistance systems is also standard.
Pricing for the GT starts at AU$ 87,126
(US$ 64,131), while the GTS will set buyers back at least AU$ 97,126 (US$ 71,492).
