The Haval DaGou – which is Chinese for “Big Dog” – now ships in a new base spec that lacks a powered tailgate, but costs 2,000 Chinese Yuan (US$ 305) less. The rest of the equipment list stays unchanged. This means 19-inch wheels, an adaptive cruise control system, heated front seats with adjustable lumbar support, lane control, AEB, traffic sign recognition, a digital dash cluster, a large infotainment display with a touch interface, a two-zone climate control system, all-around view cameras, and a panoramic roof.
The Haval DaGou first came into the
spotlight at this year’s Auto Chengdu show. It is a body-on-frame SUV with a
transversely mounted engine and multi-link suspension at the rear end. It is
4,620 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,780 mm tall and has 2,738 mm between the axles.
Buyers may get it with a 1.5-liter petrol
turbo worth 169 PS or its larger 2.0-liter counterpart rated
at 204 PS. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has paddle
shifters for easy switching and while the base spec is FWD only, the 2.0L one
has AWD. You can lock the rear differential and select from six available drive
modes, specifically Standard, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, and Sand.
The new entry-level price is 133,000
Chinese Yuan (US$ 20,345), while the top spec starts from 142,000 CNY (US$ 21,722).
