BMW’s M Division has dressed up the new M4 Convertible in more camouflage for the winter testing phase compared to previous sightings. The prototype, which is finished in matte blue and rode on black wheels, had most of its body panels hidden under the vinyl stickers, save for the doors, windshield frame, part of the bonnet and rear quarter panels.
Even so, it won’t offer any surprises as
far as design is concerned, as it will mirror the looks of its Coupe sibling.
Thus, it will sport the same huge kidney grille, flanked by the identical side
air intakes at the front, bulky side skirts, widened fenders, rear bumper with
incorporated diffuser and quad exhaust pipes, and a boot lid spoiler with
integrated third brake light.
Unlike the current iteration’s folding
metal roof, the all-new M4 Convertible will sport a soft top, which will be
lighter and, thus, provide a lower center of gravity that will enhance
handling. Compared to the latest open-top 4-Series, it will get a stiffer suspension,
bigger brakes and re-tuned steering.
Power come courtesy of a twin-turbocharged
3.0-liter inline-six, in two outputs: 473 HP in the standard
variant and 503 HP in the Competition. It is expected to
feature the same configurations as the M4 Coupe, namely rear- and all-wheel
drive, as well as and manual and automatic transmissions.
The 2022 M4 Convertible will likely debut
in the coming months.
