The 2022 BMW X4 M has traded Germany’s streets for the extreme cold of northern Sweden, which is where spies caught this prototype testing. Expected to be unveiled later this year, the facelift, or LCI in BMW speak, will arrive with the usual design revisions at both ends and, from what we can tell, a normal-sized grille.
he headlights have become a bit smaller
and protrude less into the fenders and the bumper should feature new lower and
side air intakes. At the back, the designers have kept the updates simple, with
a redesigned bumper, diffuser and taillights. A small spoiler still rests on
the tailgate, and further up, we can see that the roof-mounted wing looks
different.
While we have yet to catch a clear glimpse
of the cabin, the spies report that the infotainment screen will be bigger and
the center console will be updated. The shifter knob is also believed to be
new, and so is the iDrive controller.
In the current X4 M, the twin-turbocharged
3.0-liter six-cylinder engine makes 473 HP and 598 Nm of torque,
and we wouldn’t expect the facelifted iteration to become more powerful.
However, the X4 M Competition might get a boost in torque, considering that the
latest M3 and M4, which share the same engine and 503 HP maximum output, boast 650 Nm.
