Kia’s upcoming all-electric CV has been spied testing for the first time in 2021, wearing a touch less camouflage than previous prototypes. The exterior design of the vehicle has been inspired by both the Imagine by Kia Concept and the Futuron concept. This makes for an intriguing-looking vehicle with a sporty shape that will no doubt make it stand out on the road.
This particular prototype sports black
body cladding across the front fascia, hood, doors, and the rear fascia but
Kia’s engineers have left the pillars and roof exposed, providing us with an
excellent view of the angular roofline and steeply-raked A-pillars. Other
visible elements of the car’s exterior include narrow rear side windows and a
sharkfin antenna. A set of aero-style wheels are also distinct from other
current Kia models.
While the South Korean car manufacturer
already has two electric vehicles on sale in the form of the Nio EV and Soul
EV, the forthcoming CV is particularly noteworthy because it will be
underpinned by the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) set to underpin a
host of electric vehicles from Hyundai and Kia, including the Ioniq 5 that will
debut very soon.
Specifications of the Kia CV remain
unclear but we know the E-GMP can be used by sedans, SUVs, and CUVs, and offers
800V charging capabilities and charging speeds of 350 kWh. Vehicles based on
this architecture will have up to 500 km of range on the WLTP
testing cycle. While the vehicle is currently known as the Kia CV, its name will
change when it hits the production line.
Kia has yet to announce a launch date for
the car but it is expected to land a few months after the Ioniq 5 celebrates
its global debut.
