VinFast has unveiled three new electric vehicles and announced plans to become a global automaker. Kicking things off is the VF31, which is a C-segment crossover that will be launched in Vietnam this November. It’s not exactly a thing of beauty, but it has a distinctive front fascia and plastic body cladding. The model will measure 4,300 mm)long and have a wheelbase that spans 2,611 mm.
Inside, we can expect a heated steering
wheel, heated / ventilated seats and a climate control system with a HEPA
filter. Buyers will also find a “10-12.8 inch” infotainment system as well as
driver assistance systems such as lane departure warning, blind spot warning,
rear cross-traffic alert and a surround view camera. On the performance front,
the base model will have an electric motor that develops 114 hp and 190 Nm of torque. If
that’s not enough, the Premium version has 201 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Both will have a 42 kWh battery pack and this will
deliver a range of up to 300 km.
The VF32 is a larger D-segment crossover
that will be launched locally in February of 2022. It’s then slated to arrive
in European, U.S. and Canadian markets in June. The company didn’t say much
about the model, but we can see chrome trim and slender LED daytime running
lights. In terms of size, the VF32 will measure 4,750 mm long and
have a 2,950 mm wheelbase.
Inside, drivers will find a 15.4-inch
infotainment system and a multi-color ambient lighting system. Other highlights
include heated / ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel and a climate
control system with a HEPA filter. The entry-level model will have a single
electric motor developing 201 hp and 320 Nm of
torque. Moving up to the Premium variant will reward buyers with a dual-motor
all-wheel drive system producing 402 hp and 640
Nm. Both will apparently have a 90 kWh battery pack, but there’s no word on
how far they’ll be able to travel.
The VF33 will arrive at the same time as
the VF32 and feature LED Matrix headlights, a panoramic glass roof and a
15.4-inch infotainment system. We can also see a ventilated hood, flush-mounted
door handles and a distinctive C-pillar. This particular model will measure 5,120 mm long with a wheelbase spanning 3,150 mm.
The VF33 is slated to have a dual-motor
all-wheel drive system producing 402 hp. While the powertrain
appears to carryover from the Premium version of the VF32, the VF33 will have a
battery capacity of up to 106 kWh. This should enable the model to travel up to 550 km on a single charge.
The VF32 and FV33 are slated to have Level
2 and Level 3 semi-autonomous driving systems, while “full-option versions” of
all three models will have “some Level 4 autopilot features.” These are said to include summon and
automatic parking functions. To enable these features, the vehicles will be
equipped with 14 cameras, 19 360° sensors and an undisclosed amount of LiDAR
sensors.
A lot of questions remain, but we’ll
likely learn more in the coming months.
