Lordstown Motors announced last week that it would be entering one of its Endurance prototypes at the San Felipe 250 race in Baja California. Now, they’ve released an official rendering that shows what it will look like. he race truck has been designed to look as much as possible like the Endurance pickup truck that the company plans to sell to customers. Mind you, it has been modified to be more suitable for off-road racing.
Based on one of Lordstown’s beta
prototypes, the race truck will naturally have a roll cage and bucket seats
(along with racing harnesses, no doubt) to make it safe for racing. The San
Felipe 250 will take place over a single, 290-mile loop of Baja California,
Mexico starting and ending in the town of San Felipe. Rated at just 250-miles
of range, managing the battery will presumably be one of the first hurdles
Lordstown has to tackle.
A recent video from electric pickup
competitor Rivian may provide a hint to a solution. The R1T was entered in the
slower but longer 2020 Rebelle Rally and a charging semi-trailer helped it
charge during the desert race. The San Felipe 250 is the first race of SCORE’s
2021 calendar and will start on April 17.
