BMW’s M Division has been the official safety car provider of the MotoGP since 1999, and for the 2021 season, they have prepped three new rides and a bike. Sporting new attire and emergency lights are the 2021 M3 Sedan, M4 Coupe and M5 CS, joined by the first M model from BMW Motorrad, the M 1000 RR.
All of them will celebrate their debut on
March 28 at the season opener in Qatar. The fleet won’t be completed until the
Portugal Grand Prix that’s scheduled for April 18, when the M8 Competition
Coupe and M8 Competition Gran Coupe safety cars, X5 M medical car and another M
1000 RR safety bike will join the fleet.
Compared to the production versions, the
three safety cars feature flashing front lights, light bars, motorsport
quick-release bonnet latches and emergency power shutoffs. Moreover, the M3
Competition Sedan safety car is finished in Frozen Grey Dark Metallic, and the
M4 Competition Coupe in Sao Paulo Yellow. Both of them have modified exhaust
systems, and the rear seat was removed from the two-door model, which now has a
roll bar and four-point harnesses instead.
The M5 CS safety car has a Frozen Deep
Green Metallic paintwork and the bike, whose racing version will appear in the
Superbike World Championship, boasts the official M colors.
