Ferrari has so far managed to avoid the SUV segment, but since that’s where the money is these days, they will soon launch such a model. Named internally as the Purosangue, Ferrari’s first SUV is currently in the road-testing phase, albeit as a mule, using a modified body of the Maserati Levante, with a slightly longer nose, lower-mounted grille, and raked A-pillars. It also sits closer to the ground than the Trident brand’s high-rider.
Zooming in on one of the images taken by our
spy photographers in Sweden reveals the dashboard, which does not seem to have
anything in common with the Levante. For starters, the analog clock no longer
sits on top, the air vents have a rounded design and we cannot really see an
infotainment screen, meaning that it is probably mounted a bit lower or
perhaps it pops up/out at the push of a button.
It is firmly believed that the Purosangue
will act as the indirect successor of the GTC4Lusso, which was discontinued
last year. Power might be supplied by the same V8, a twin-turbocharged
3.9-liter unit, allegedly upgraded to kick out around 650 PS,
a 40 PS improvement.
Moreover, since it will remain on sale for
the better part of the decade, an electrified variant is supposedly on the
cards, packing a V6 with electric assistance. It’s unknown yet whether it will
be a self-charging or a plug-in hybrid though.
