Work continues on the 2022 Honda Civic as spy photographers have caught a hatchback wearing less camouflage than ever before. While the model is still heavily disguised, we can get a better look at the new front end that features slimmer headlights and a revised grille with a honeycomb mesh insert. Further below, there’s a wide air intake with horizontal bars overlaid on honeycomb.
Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar
as the model features less flamboyant bodywork. We can also see a more
traditional beltline and a larger greenhouse with new rear quarter glass. Out
back, the model has a more conservative rear end that lacks a wing and a
ventilated rear bumper. That being said, we can see a small diffuser and new
taillights that have a Dodge Charger vibe.
Spy photographers haven’t gotten a good
look inside, but Honda previewed the interior when they introduced the Civic
concept last fall. The teaser image suggests the model will have a minimalist
design with a slim dashboard that features a free-standing 9-inch infotainment
system. The Civic will also have a digital instrument cluster as well as a
honeycomb mesh accent that helps to conceal the air vents. We can also expect a
center console with large cup holders and a traditional gearshift.
Engine options remain the biggest mystery,
but speculation has suggested the Civic will continue to use a turbocharged
1.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 174 hp and 220 Nm of torque. Honda has also confirmed there will be new Si and Type R
variants, and rumors have suggested the latter could retain its turbocharged
2.0-liter four-cylinder with 306 hp.
We should learn more shortly as the 2022
Honda Civic will be introduced this spring.
