Kia has released the first teasers of the 2022 EV6, which will be their first electric vehicle based on the new E-GMP platform. Previously known as the CV, the EV6 will debut in the first quarter and feature a bold design philosophy that “embodies Kia’s shifting focus towards electrification.”
Speaking of the latter, the EV6 will be a
sleek electric vehicle that features a rakish windscreen which flows into a
sloping roof. We can also see streamlined bodywork, flush-mounted door handles
and an angular rear window. Other notable highlights include slender LED
headlights and muscular rear haunches. The model also has a unique rear end
with sequential turn signals and distinctive brake lights.
Kia is staying light-lipped about specifications, but they should echo the Hyundai Ioniq 5. As a result, we can expect 58- and 72.6 kWh battery packs as well as rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. The latter uses two electric motors that produce a combined output of 302 hp and 605 Nm of torque.
The all-wheel drive variant can accelerate
from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, while the front-wheel drive model
with the larger battery pack has a range of approximately 480 km in
the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure.
Full details will be released shortly, but
Kia confirmed their dedicated electric vehicles will have a naming strategy
that “brings simplicity and consistency” across global markets. As you’ve
probably guessed, the names will begin with an “EV” prefix and be followed by a
number that corresponds to a vehicle’s position in the lineup.
