In a few weeks, Huawei will release a car but it’s not what you think. This car will not be a Huawei-branded car. Huawei has repeatedly stated that it “does not build cars” but aims to “help car companies build good cars”. BAIC Blue Valley and Huawei will jointly launch the ARCFOX HBT, the first model ARCFOX αS HBT. According to the official release of BAIC Blue Valley, this product will arrive at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2021. “HBT” means HUAWEI BLUEPARK TOGETHER.
In September 2017, BAIC Group and Huawei
announced their deepening cooperation. BAIC New Energy and Huawei inaugurated
the “1873 Davidson Innovation Laboratory” to jointly develop core technologies
and build high-end smart electric vehicles. On the eve of the Shanghai Auto Show
in April 2019, Huawei’s rotating chairman, Xu Zhijun, announced that two
partners, Huawei and BAIC, would build a world-class car.
In October 2020, ARCFOX αT, with Huawei’s
intelligent network connection and intelligent electric solutions, hit the public.
The ARCFOX HBT equipped with the new Huawei smart car solution is the result of
the further deepening of cooperation between the two parties.
BAIC Blue Valley stated that in December
2020, Huawei officially released its 96-line medium and long-range lidar
products. Huawei’s lidar is rich in application scenarios, such as
small/long-distance obstacles, short-distance stoppages, near-end protrusions,
tunnels, crossroads, basements, etc. This solution from Huawei also efficiently
detects high-speed vehicles from a distance away. Furthermore, Huawei plans to
reduce the price of its Lidar solution. It hopes to drive the price down to US$ 200 or even US$ 100. This information is coming from Wang Jun, president of
Huawei’s smart car solutions BU.
The BAIC Blue Valley ARCFOX Polar Fox αS
HBT version, which will be unveiled in April this year, will be equipped with
Huawei Lidar. As of now, Huawei currently has three LiDAR configuration
solutions: single, dual, and triple lidar configurations. BAIC Blue Valley
ARCFOX Polar Fox αS HBT models will adopt the most advanced triple Lidar
loading solutions. HBT will also be equipped with 6-millimeter wave radar, 12
cameras, 13 ultrasonic radars, and a Huawei chip with a computing power of up
to 352Tops, forming an autonomous driving solution above the L3 level.
