Kia has dropped pricing details on the all-new 2022 Carnival in the United States, which is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of the year, replacing the Sedona. Described by the Korean company as a “multi-purpose vehicle,” or MPV, a term widely used in markets outside North America, such as Europe, for the minivan segment, the new Carnival attempts to reinvent itself by adding some more dynamic crossover elements to the mix.
In the States, it will be offered in five
trim levels, the LX, LX with Seating Package, EX, SX and SX Prestige, with the
entry-level variant carrying a US$ 32,100 MSRP, excluding a US$ 1,175 destination
charge and dealer fees. This makes it US$ 2,945 cheaper than the base 2021
Chrysler Pacifica and US$ 1,700 pricier than its predecessor.
Standard gear includes a seven-passenger
seating configuration with rear air conditioning, power sliding rear doors,
smart key and push-button start, and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system
with rear-view monitor. Lane keep assist, blind spot warning, rear
cross-traffic collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking and rear
occupant alert with ultrasonic sensors are on deck as well. For the LX Seat
Package, customers will have to pay a minimum of US$ 34,100. This version of the
2022 Carnival adds the SynTex upholstery, heated front seats with power
adjustment on the driver’s side, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift
knob, and seating for up to eight.
The EX grade is offered from US$ 37,600, with
19-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, electric tailgate, improved automatic
emergency braking with junction turn and cyclist detection, smart cruise
control-based navigation system, front parking sensors, three-zone climate
control, in-cabin camera and intercom, and 12.3-inch infotainment.
For the SX, which brings 19-inch black
alloy wheels, surround view monitor, rear parking collision avoidance assist,
LED fog lamps, roof rails, 115V outlets, ventilated front seats with electric
adjustment for the passenger and memory function for the driver, and
dual-screen rear-seat entertainment, customers will have to pay at least US$ 41,100. The range-topping SX Prestige comes from US$ 46,100, with blind view
monitor, LED projector headlights and LED taillights, heated steering wheel,
heated and ventilated second-row seats, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster,
leather upholstery, Bose premium audio and seating for seven.
Power across the range is supplied by the
290 HP and 355 Nm of torque 3.6-liter V6 engine, with an
eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and a towing
capability of up to 1,588 kg. The 2022 Carnival returns an EPA
estimated 19/26/22 mpg (12.4/9.1/10.7 l/100 km) in city/highway/combined.
