Audi recently confirmed that the vehicle it will produce on the new PPE platform will be called the Q6 e-tron and we now have more spy pictures of it testing. The crossover in the photos remains heavily camouflaged, but there’s still information to glean. For instance, the outline of the headlights is visible behind the swirly wraps and the rough shape of the lower grille section can be seen.
A sensor can also be viewed there, though
that’s hardly a surprise these days. Air intakes that might be functional
instead of aesthetic can be seen on either side of the front bumper, too. Like
the Porsche Macan EV, the Q6 e-tron will be based on the “Premium Platform
Electric” (PPE) architecture. Although details about the platform are still
scant, we know that it will be scalable and will be capable of 800V
fast-charging, just like the Taycan and the e-tron GT.
Intended to be the basis for a number of
premium electric vehicles, the platform should be the higher quality (and
therefore higher priced) alternative to the MEB platform that the ID.3 and ID.4
are based on. Co-developed by Porsche and Audi, there will be high expectations
of the vehicles based on the PPE platform. Indeed, rumors already suggest that
the range will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 480 KM of range
on the European test cycle.
At Volkswagen’s battery day, Audi promised
that the Q6 e-tron, which is roughly Q5-sized, will arrive in 2022. Indeed, the
automaker will have to churn these out if it wants to live up to its promise of
delivering 20 EVs by 2025.
