Not long after images of the production-spec Nissan 400Z leaked online, details about the new sports car have hit the web. This information reportedly comes from an unknown source within Nissan and details were shared to the 400zclub forum. For starters, it is claimed that the car won’t be dubbed the 400Z and will instead simply be named the Nissan Z in international markets, other than Japan where it will be dubbed the Nissan Fairlady Z.
As we’ve known for some time, the car will
be powered by Infiniti’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 hp, giving it
a power advantage over the 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0. Perhaps as important as the
horsepower rating, however, is the claim that the Nissan Z could start at US$ 34,995 for the base model. If true, that would make it roughly US$ 5,000 more
expensive than the outdated 370Z but US$ 16,950 less than the Toyota Supra 3.0 and
$7,950 less than the Supra 2.0.
A handful of variants will apparently be
offered. Sitting above the base model could be a Nissan Z Type S that adds Brembo brakes, thicker sway
bars, and some other features. The next version could be the Type T with
heated/cooled leather and power-adjustable seats, and some driver assistance
features, while the flagship model could be dubbed the Type ST.
Nissan’s new Ζ car will apparently be
offered with two transmission options. The first will be the same six-speed
manual as the 370Z and the other a Mercedes-sourced 9G-Tronic. The report goes
on to claim that the Nissan Z will share its underpinnings with the 370Z but
benefit from upgrades including more bracing and increased use of aluminum and
carbon fiber. As always, we recommend taking these claims with a grain of salt,
but regardless of whether or not they prove accurate, there’s little doubt that
the new Z will help trigger renewed interest in the Nissan brand.
