Volkswagen has teased the T7 Multivan, ahead of its debut in a “few weeks.” Looking far sleeker than the T6.1, which will stick around as a “robust commercial and all-wheel drive vehicle,” the redesigned T7 has a rounded front fascia with stylish LED lighting units. While the headlights are fairly conventional, they’re joined by an illuminated accent which spans nearly the entire width of the vehicle. The van also eschews a traditional grille for a small central intake and a large lower opening.
As fate would have it, spy photographers
also caught up with the model. Their pictures show the van will have a shorter
and lower hood as well as new front quarter glass. Designers also gave the van
more expressive bodywork as it features pronounced wheel arches and a recessed
accent that cuts through the doors. Lastly, we can see an evolutionary bumper
and a new liftgate with a prominent spoiler.
The black van is a plug-in hybrid and it
features a charging port on the passenger side front fender. Volkswagen has
been tight-lipped about it, but confirmed the eco-friendly model will be
available at launch. While spy photographers didn’t snap interior pictures this
time around, previous photos have shown the van will have a Golf-like cabin
with a digital instrument cluster and a freestanding infotainment system. Drivers
will also find new switchgear and a more minimalist design.
Specifications remain the biggest question
mark, but the T7 is expected to ride on the MQB platform and be offered with an
assortment of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains shared with the
Golf.
