BMW has started accepting pre-orders for the iX3 in Australia on their official website. A build slot of the electric SUV can be booked for AU$ 500 (US$ 387), and customers will collaborate with an authorized dealer to specify their desired configuration. The first deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of the year.
The iX3 is offered in rear-wheel drive
configuration, with its powertrain generating a total output of 286 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes 6.8 seconds and top speed is limited to 180 km/h.
Powering the electric motor is an 80 kWh
(74 kWh net capacity) battery pack that enables a total driving range of 460 km on the WLTP test cycle. The battery supports DC fast-charging of up
to 150 kW and can be recharged from 0 to 80 percent in 34 minutes. Moreover,
according to BMW, a 100-kilometer driving range can be added in 10
minutes. With the Audi e-tron and Mercedes-Benz EQC in its sights, the 2021 iX3
comes with the latest safety and technology gear, including BMW’s Operating
System 7.0 that supports over-the-air updates.
Versatility is on par with the ICE-powered
versions of the X3, the automaker claims. The model has a 40:20:40
split/folding rear seat backrest, which can increase cargo capacity from 510 to
1,560 liters when folded down. Full pricing and specifications
will be announced closer to its official on-sale date.
