The facelifted 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric has just touched down in Australia a few months after launching in other markets around the world. Two variants of the Kona Electric will be available Down Under: the Elite and the flagship Highlander. Both feature the same mechanical components, meaning a 64 kWh battery pack coupled to a single electric motor producing 201 hp and 395 Nm of torque, all while delivering a range of 484 km on the WLTP cycle.
Both the Kona Electric Elite and
Highlander also feature the same suite of safety systems. That includes Lane
Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist,
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, and a Rear
Occupant Alert.
In the cabin, Aussie-spec 2021 Kona
Electric models come standard with an eight-speed Harman Kardon premium audio
system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, rear view
monitor, and remote start. Among the upgrades enjoyed by the Highlander are a
glass sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear outboard seats,
ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, power driver’s and passengers’ seats,
an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, and a Head-Up display. The Highlander
also includes LED taillights, High Beam Assist, and a front park assist system,
while customers can opt for a Phantom Black roof at no extra charge.
Just two options are available for the
Kona Electric Elite and Highlander: a premium paint for AU$ 595 (US$ 454) and a
black/grey interior for AU$ 295 (US$ 224). Local pricing for the 2021 Hyundai
Kona Electric Elite starts at AU$ 62,000 (US$ 47,402), while the Highlander is
available from AU$ 66,000 (US$ 50,460).
