Volkswagen has just published pricing for the 2021 Arteon R and Arteon R Shooting Brake in Germany, and it puts the two models against some stiff competition. The liftback model is on sale from € 63,095 (US$ 75,540) and the estate starts at € 63,980 (US$ 76,600). By comparison, the 374 PS BMW M340i xDrive has a recommended retail price of € 65,200 (US$ 78,060) in its homeland, and the 341 PS Audi S4 TDI diesel comes from € 63,750 (US$ 76,325).
Powering the 2021 Arteon R is a 2.0-liter
TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 320 PS between 5,350 and 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 2,100 rpm.
Both body styles feature a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission and
all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, taking 4.9 seconds to hit 100 km/h and maxing out at 250 km/h, or 270 km/h when equipped
with the optional R Performance Package.
The sportier versions of the facelifted
Arteon range will not launch in the United States. Nor will the Arteon Shooting
Brake, with the model’s U.S. lineup comprising of the SE, SEL R-Line and SEL
Premium R-Line variants of the five-door liftback.
Pricing starts at US$ 36,995, US$ 41,595 and US$ 46,995 respectively, excluding the $1,195 destination charge and handling fee.
All versions are powered by a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder rated at
268 HP and 350 Nm that’s hooked up to an eight-speed automatic
transmission and front-wheel drive as standard, with the 4Motion all-wheel
drive system being optional on the SEL R-Line and standard on the
top-of-the-line SEL Premium R-Line grade.
