Lexus has announced that the official unveiling of the 2022 ES will take place on April 19. The model will be shown to the world at the Auto Shanghai 2021, which opens its gates next Monday, and deliveries should start before the end of the year.
Toyota’s luxury car brand refers to it as
the “new Lexus ES”, but since the seventh generation is barely three years old,
this will actually be a mid-cycle refresh, although a modest one, in term of
visual updates at least, as the teaser image and video reveal.
Blink and you will probably miss the
changes, such as the new graphics for the LED headlights. The clusters have
reinterpreted DRLs and turn signals, yet the overall shape soldiers on. The
short clip reveals the back end, which seems to be identical, as everything
carries over, from the taillight pattern to the bumper, reflectors and even the
chrome trim that stretches across the trunk’s width.
We don’t know anything else about the
facelifted ES yet, but it could be offered with the same powertrain family. In
the U.S., it is available with a 203 HP 2.5-liter inline-four and a 302 HP
3.5-liter V6 for the 250 and 350 versions respectively, while the 300h hybrid
has 215 HP. Pricing varies between US$ 40,000 and US$ 50,910, and the current ES can
be ordered in one of the twelve specs available, starting with the 250 AWD and
ending with the 300h Ultra Luxury.
