The brand new Audi A7 L has just been snapped without any disguise during a photoshoot in China. The eagle-eyed spy photographers first snapped the Audi A7 L undergoing testing late last year. It is based on the A7 Sportback we’re familiar with but in addition to having its wheelbase extended, it has also morphed into a sedan.
The differences between the A7 L and a
regular A7 Sportback are particularly obvious when the car is viewed from the
side. In addition to extending the wheelbase, the German car manufacturer has
redesigned the roofline, making it slightly more upright and increasing the
size of the second-row side windows.
Audi has also altered the rear end, which
now sports a traditional sedan trunk opening rather than the hatchback-style
opening of the A7 Sportback. Speaking of the rear, there’s also a prominent lip
spoiler on the trunklid and tweaked taillights with new LED graphics.
Responsible for building the A7 L will be
the SAIC-VW joint venture and according to reports, it will be manufactured at
a revamped Shanghai plant starting later this year. It is based on the MLB Evo
platform and is tipped to be available with a 2.0-liter turbo four and a
3.0-liter turbo V6. Topping out the range will be a 55TFSI quattro model.
Expect to see the Audi A7 L officially
unveiled in the coming weeks.
