Ferrari has been using modified bodies of the Maserati Levante to test their upcoming SUV, which is also their first, the Purosangue. And while that’s not exactly new, this test mule takes the modifications to a different level.
That’s because it uses new lighting units
up front that appear to have been lifted from the Ferrari Roma. They have a
very similar shape to the ones used on the front-engined GT and a horizontal
LED strip right in the middle. It is still too early to confirm whether they
have anything in common with the final production parts, but it’s nonetheless
interesting to see it like this.
The hood was readjusted to accommodate the
headlights and so was the bumper. We can see other modifications too, such as
the wider grille and smaller creases on each side. A small portion above the
rear window wasn’t covered up by the camouflage and it reveals a light blue
color. Ferrari also applied more stickers to the tailgate that better hide the
rear lights, which otherwise seem to sport different graphics. The bumper,
diffuser, quad exhaust pipes, and even the wheels soldier on.
Some sort of electrified powertrain,
perhaps a V6 with self-charging or plug-in capabilities, will reportedly be
introduced in the Purosangue. However, that might happen later on, as it could
launch with the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 from the discontinued GTC4Lusso, in an
upgraded form, perhaps making around 650 HP. And that wouldn’t be a
coincidence, because the SUV is rumored to serve as the indirect successor of
the GT.
