Ford is finally opening the order books for the range-topping Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition, with customers able to order it online or via a Ford EV-certified dealer on April 28. Prices for the new Mustang Mach-E GT start from US$ 59,900 (estimated MSRP, excluding any destination and handling charges), while the Mach-E GT Performance Edition is priced from US$ 64,900. Both models are eligible for the available federal tax incentive, which can be as much as US$ 7,500.
The new Ford Mustang Mach-E GT will sit on
top of the existing range as the fastest, most powerful variant of the electric
SUV, focusing on sharper handling and even featuring a track-only driving mode,
called “Unbridled Extend”. The new Unbridled Extend driving mode, which is
designed for use only on tracks and closed courses, balances the power output
of the new Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition models for lap time
consistency, according to Ford.
Visually, the new Mustang Mach-E can be
distinguished from its lesser siblings thanks to the Carbonized Gray grille
with illuminated pony badge, black door mirror caps, a set of 20-inch
machined-faced alloy wheels shod in 245/45 all-season tires, and the red brake
calipers with bigger rotors. Go for the Mach-E GT Performance Edition and
you’ll get Brembo brake calipers, model-specific Pirelli summer tires, as well
as a set of Magneride dampers for even sharper handling.
The electric powertrain of the new Ford
Mustang Mach-E GT is comprised by a pair of electric motors with a combined
output of 480 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque, and an 88 kWh battery pack. The
Performance Edition also offers 480 HP but adds a bit more torque, at 634
lb-ft. Ford claims a 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds for the Mach-E GT, which drops
down to 3.5 seconds if you go for the Performance Edition. As for the driving
range, the company targets an EPA-estimated 402 km for the Mach-E
GT and 378 km for the Mach-E GT Performance Edition.
The interior of the new Ford Mustang
Mach-E GT features sports seats in Black Onyx ActiveX material with Miko
inserts, copper metallic stitching, and copper metallic piping, as well as a
B&O sound system with nine speakers and a subwoofer. The Performance
Edition adds even more body-hugging seats from Ford Performance in gray.
One of the key optional features will be
Ford’s new BlueCruise hands-free driver-assistance system, which comes as part
of the Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 package. The system will allow drivers to take
their hands off the wheel on more than 100,000 miles of prequalified sections
of divided highways across North America. The first deliveries of the new Ford
Mustang Mach-E GT and Mach-E GT Performance Edition will begin in early fall.
