Practically all automotive shows have been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic – all but the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, which is taking place these days and has hosted a number of debuts.
One of the automakers that have already
caught our attention is Great Wall thanks to their Porsche-looking ORA
Lightning Cat electric vehicle, but it wasn’t their only premiere, as they have
also brought the Truck X Cannon to the show.
Said to have been built around the
company’s latest version of their off-road platform, it features double
wishbone suspension on both axles that can be upgraded to an optional air
suspension. As we can see in the images, it has underbody protection, black
beefy bumpers and plastic cladding on the lower parts of the body. It also has
a flashy grille with a giant logo in the middle, squared headlamps, a bulky
hood, vertical taillights with a light strip on the upper part of the tailgate,
a bed cover and chunky rubber from BFGoodrich wrapped around the multi-spoke
wheels.
The new double cab pickup truck is
reportedly powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine coupled to a
nine-speed automatic transmission with 4H mode. Chinese media also state that
Great Wall will launch an optional hybrid powertrain for the Truck X Cannon in
the near future, with an electric motor integrated into the transmission.
