Maserati took the stage in Shanghai to reveal two new special editions, the Ghibli and the Levante F Tributo, which pay homage to the brand’s long, proud history in motorsport. Both cars are offered in Rosso Tributo or Azzuro Tributo. The colors are connected to the brand’s history; Rosso Tributo is a sanguine reference to Italy’s racing colors, but more specifically to the brand’s first Formula 1 car.
The Maserati 250F was driven by Juan
Manual Fangio to much success. The car was entered into 46 races in which it
earned eight pole positions and eight wins. Fangio’s car was painted red and
yellow, which is alluded to here with the F Tributo’s yellow brake calipers.
The Azzuro Tributo, meanwhile, is a
tribute to Maserati’s hometown of Modena. The Modenese colors are blue and
yellow, and while the paint serves as a tribute to the blue, the brake calipers
serve as a reference to the yellow.
The look is rounded out with black Anteo
21-inch wheels for the Levante, while the Ghibli gets gloss black 21-inch
Titano wheels. A gloss black badge is placed on the wheel arch, while a
body-color trident badge sits on the C-pillar. Inside, the cars feature black
leather with stitching that matches the body color.
Although the 250F was the best
front-engine F1 car the late Sir Sterling Moss said he had ever driven, it
wasn’t the brand’s only great race car. This weekend marks the 95th anniversary
of Maserati’s first race: the Tipo26 entered its first event on April 25 1926
and won the 1,500 cc class at the Targa Florio with Alfieri Maserati at the
wheel.
