XPeng has started accepting pre-orders for the P5. A build slot for the Chinese electric vehicle, which celebrated its public premiere at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, can be secured for a refundable 99 yuan, or just US$ 15 at the current exchange rates. The first customers will get “lifetime free charging”.

Reservations kicked off on April 19, and 53 hours later, the company announced on social media that they received pre-orders for over 10,000 units. Demand is expected to keep growing, as XPeng has high expectations from the P5, believing that it will further boost their sales beyond the first-quarter record.

The official launch of the P5 is scheduled for the third quarter of the year, and deliveries should commence in Q4. The Chinese automaker has yet to announce the official starting price of the car. The P5 is a bit longer than the Tesla Model 3 but has a shorter wheelbase. It sports a 15.6-inch portrait-oriented screen inside, a 12.3-inch tablet-like digital instrument cluster, three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, leather upholstery, glossy black accents and metal trim. An 18-liter refrigerator and a 220-volt socket will also be included.

The icing on the cake is a semi-autonomous driving system that the automaker claims to be the “strongest” offered in a production vehicle.
