Ford has started delivering the first examples of the new Mustang Mach-1 in Europe, the latest track-focused version of the popular pony car. The new Ford Mustang Mach-1 is described as “the most capable Mustang ever to reach Europe”, featuring a range of Shelby GT350 bits and a more aggressive aero package to make it not only faster but more consistent performer during track driving.

Power comes from the familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine, which in EU-spec produces 30 HP less than its North American counterpart, at 453 HP and 529 Nm of torque. The engine features a high-performance Open Air induction system, intake manifold, 87 mm throttle bodies, and is upgraded with an auxiliary oil cooler and new engine oil filter adaptor to ensure optimal oil flow, even under track driving conditions.

                                              

The big news here is found in the transmission department, with manual cars getting the same Tremec 3160 unit as the Shelby GT350 – for the first time in an EU-spec Mustang- as well as the option for a 10-speed automatic. Both transmission options come with a dedicated oil cooler, a rear-axle cooling system, and a limited-slip differential. The 10-speed automatic unit also adds a second air-to-oil cooler, which further increases cooling capacity by 75 percent.

Ford claims that 0-100 km/h comes in 4.4 seconds for models fitted with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Go for the manual – and you should go for the manual – and that time drops to a still very respectable 4.8 seconds, with the top speed set at 267 km/h. The Tremec manual transmission features a twin-disc clutch, a short-throw shifter, rev-matching technology, and flat-shift capability too. Downforce is increased by 22 percent compared to the Mustang GT, thanks to the new front splitter, undertray, single-deck rear spoiler, and rear diffuser, with the undertray featuring special fins to direct cooling air to the brakes. Speaking of which, the new Mustang Mach-1 uses six-piston Brembo calipers.

 

The new limited-edition Mustang rides on a specially tuned MagneRide adjustable suspension, featuring stiffer springs and model-specific anti-roll bars. The subframes and toe-link components are also sourced from the Shelby GT350 and GT500 models. The new Mustang Mach-1 rides on new 19-inch alloy wheels that are 0.5-inches wider front and rear and shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Customers in Europe are offered the choice between eight color combinations for the body, and stripes, including the Fighter Jet Grey with Satin Black/Reflective Orange stripes and Grabber Yellow with Satin Black/White stripes.
