The first units of the 2021 Outback will arrive in UK showrooms from May 27. Pricing for the off-road wagon starts at £ 33,995, equaling to US$ 47,245 at the current exchange rates, which makes it around £ 200 (US$ 278) more expensive than the outgoing model. The new Outback will be offered in three trim levels, named Limited, Field (£ 37,995 / US$ 52,804) and Touring (£ 39,495 / US$ 54,888), all offered with a 2.5-liter boxer unit that produces 180 horsepower, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.
Built around the latest version of the
company’s global platform that enhances the torsional rigidity by 70 percent
and offers 40 percent better energy absorption, it promises improved ride
comfort and better handling. The company claims the more rigid construction and
sound-insulated front windows and windscreen make it quieter too.
Standard on all three trim levels,
Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist technology brings lane departure warning with
steering wheel vibration, lane departure prevention, pre-collision braking with
additional support for junctions and crossroads, emergency lane keep assist,
advanced adaptive cruise control with lane centering and speed sign recognition
with intelligent speed limiter. The driver monitoring system and reverse
automatic braking are new for the 2021 Outback, which gets a washer jet for the
reversing camera as well.
The Outback has a 522-literload area, 60/40 folding rear seatbacks, wider boot opening compared to its
predecessor, and built-in roof rails on the entry-level and fold-out roof rails
on the other two. The facial recognition tech can identify up to 5 users and
automatically adjust the driver’s seat, side mirrors and HVAC preferences. Once
settled in, they will use the 11.6-inch touchscreen display to bring up maps,
send messages, find contacts, select the music or the desired driving mode,
which also includes enhanced traction on snow, dirt, gravel or mud. Depending
on the chosen grade, users will get Nappa leather and heated front and rear
seats.
