Chinese GAC Group has announced the second generation of its GS8 crossover model, along with posting a few pics of the camouflaged car. The premiere will take place in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Based on the images, the form factor stays the same, as do the large lights, the radiator grille, and the edgy outlines. The main novelty comes in the form of a new technological platform: according to GAC, the car will switch to using the GPMA platform and Toyota’s hybrid system known as the THS.

This means the new GS8 may get a gasoline engine, a single electric motor, and an electromechanical CVT gearbox. Having said that, the Chinese automaker will probably modify the system to suit its needs, replacing the engine and the motor with their own, in-house designed counterparts.
