At last year’s #NEXTGen event, BMW Motorrad introduced the Definition CE 04 electric scooter. Billed as a “near-series version,” the scooter drew inspiration from the earlier Concept Link and was designed to preview an upcoming production model. Fast forward to today and Decoches has posted undisguised images of a prototype undergoing testing.

As you can see, the scooter closely resembles the Definition CE 04 but features a handful of modifications. Many are aimed at making the vehicle street legal and they include the addition of mirrors, reflectors, turn signals and brake lights.

Additional changes are limited, but we can see a new rear fender and a revised seat. There also appears to be slight changes to some of the body panels, but the overall look remains intact. BMW hasn’t said much about the Definition CE 04 lately but, when the vehicle was introduced, the company noted scooters are not “fun” bikes but rather practical everyday vehicles. As a result, the scooter was designed to be user friendly and appeal to urbanites who only travel around 12 km per day.

Speaking of which, the scooter had a low-mounted battery and a compact powertrain. This enabled designers to give the Definition CE 04 an illuminated storage compartment which could be used to hold a helmet and other equipment. The scooter was also equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and, judging by the photos, that will carryover to the production model.

There’s no word on specifications or when the scooter will be introduced but, given the target audience, power and range will likely play second fiddle to usability and comfort.
