When BMW introduced the i4 in March, the company confirmed an M Performance version was in the works. Fast forward to today and a purported picture of the i4 M50 has surfaced on social media. Noticed by BMW Blog, the image shows a sportier looking EV with a blacked out grille featuring M badging. The car has also been equipped with a more aggressive front bumper that features revised air intakes.
The styling changes continue further back
as we can see aerodynamic mirrors and unique front fender vents. The model also
rides on two-tone wheels and features Shadowline trim. BMW hasn’t said much
about the car, but the automaker has previously confirmed the i4 will be
offered in a variety of configurations with outputs up to 523 hp. That’s presumably the M Performance variant and the company has said the
model will be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in around four
seconds.
It remains unclear if the impressive
performance will have an impact on the car’s range, but the i4 will be able to
travel up to 590 km in the WLTP cycle (300 miles EPA). Of course, BMW hasn’t
said which particular version will be able to travel that far. One thing we do
know is how the electric M will sound. The noise was revealed earlier this
month as BMW tapped composer Hans Zimmer to create a noise that ‘builds’ in
volume to suggest higher levels of power and acceleration. It also seemed to
incorporate its own version of a gear change.
The BMW i4 M50 will reportedly be unveiled
on June 1st, so stay tuned for details.
